Google’s RCS as the new SMS standard
Google revealed their upcoming plan for Mobile World Congress 2018. One of the outlines includes RCS. You may have heard this acronym before which pertains to instant messaging. RCS stands for Rich Communication Services.
According to BGR, it is Google’s way to describe a better SMS texting than anything you have ever experienced. RCS reportedly has a similarity to WhatsApp experience that has a creative content and real emoji for the standard SMS App of the phone.
Moreover, SMS already felt obsolete compared to Allo, Facebook, iMessage, Messenger, Telegram, WhatsApp, and whatever is added to your list. As we all know, these messengers allow users to do lots of things aside from sending SMS. While this is true, sending SMS is frustrating in comparison. So this is where the Google’s RCS enter as they aim to have new SMS chat standard.
At the moment, no updates were revealed if there are ads in this latest upgrade. Google says that companies in food, travel, retail, and delivery services in the US and Mexico “are starting to have better conversations with their customers using RCS,” as part of the Early Access Program.
“This means, for example, that a retailer can send beautiful images of their products, rather than a text message, and even let the customer select and buy something, all without leaving the messaging app,” Google explains.Have you checked Papasurvey?
In addition, Google will reveal this new RCS experience at the MWC 2018. It’s their plan to usher RCS to business all around the globe. So the biggest question is, will one be able to chat with friends through SMS texting? According to the report, it only aims to improve texting experience for business. After all, Google still needs to convince its biggest rival Apple (for iPhone) if they really want to make RCS become the new SMS.
